- A sign permit, which is required for certain wall and freestanding signs, may be obtained at the Building Department at Henderson City Hall (240 Water Street, Henderson, NV 89015). In order to obtain a sign permit, you must be a licensed C6 contractor by the State of Nevada and have a business license within the City of Henderson. Attached signs include most signs attached to, applied on, or supported by any part of a building. A freestanding sign includes most signs connected to the ground. Certain types of signs are excluded from regulation. Information concerning procedures related to Sign Permits is available from the Community Development Department signs webpage.

- The single-family residential landscaping requirements are outlined in Section 19.5.11.B of the Development Code and are dependent upon the width of your property. Lots that are 40 feet wide or less require 1 24-inch box shade tree and 5 5-gallon shrubs. Lots wider than 40 feet require 2 24-inch box trees and 7 5-gallon shrubs. Custom homes in designated rural neighborhoods and custom home lots with no design standards are exempt from these standards. Additionally, alternatives to the 2-tree requirement may be approved by the Community Development Director, based on the available open soil area in the front yard.
The use of low water use and drought-tolerant landscaping materials is encouraged in residential front, side, and rear yards. Additionally, the installation of new natural turf in residential front yards is prohibited. See also HMC Chapter 14.14.

If you do need to submit a records request, please allow processing time of up to five working days from the date of request. Electronic requests and file copies provided electronically are generally processed much faster. Printed copies are 10 cents per page (20 cents per page for 11x17 copies). Larger documents may require use of an FTP site or provision of the documents on a compact disc ($1 per disc). More extensive requests may also necessitate a $31.50 per hour research fee.
Please note that many “older†files are on microfilm, which can be printed or converted to electronic/PDF files for a fee of 10 cents per page, again with the hourly fee for large projects.

Can I put household hazardous
waste, such as old gasoline, used batteries, oil or pesticides, in my trash for
curbside pickup?
These types of items, known as
household hazardous waste, can not be put with your trash or recycling for
curbside pickup by Republic Services. You can however, take them to the
Republic Services transfer station location at 560 Cape Horn Drive on specific
days for disposal. Please view the calendar for the dates and
times that these items can be taken to this location. Please be sure to bring a
copy of your Republic Services bill and ID to show that you are a current
customer.
What types of household
hazardous wastes can be taken to the Republic Services transfer station located
at 560 Cape Horn Drive?
You can take household hazardous
wastes to the transfer station on specific dates and times as shown on the
attached calendar. Wastes that can be taken by Republic Services include
old paint, used batteries, flammable liquids (gasoline, solvent based cleaners,
brake fluid, antifreeze, etc), drain and oven cleaners, pool chemicals,
pesticides/fertilizers, computers/TVs (limit 2), adhesives and aerosol cans.
There is a limit of 40 lbs or 15 gallons. Items that are unacceptable for
disposal at the transfer station include explosives, pressurized gas cylinders,
commercial waste, mercury, ammunition, industrial waste and any unidentified
material. Call Republic Services at (702) 735-5151 if you have any
questions.

- There are several methods for dividing a property into one or more parcels, but not all of them apply to all types of divisions.
First, you’ll need an engineer to prepare a map for you. They can also help you determine which type of map you’ll need. Once they prepare the map, it will need to be submitted to the City for review and approval. Finally, it will need to be recorded with the County Recorder’s Office. This entire process takes anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks or longer, depending on the complexity of the map and subdivision.
For dividing a parcel into 4 or fewer parcels, a Parcel Map may be created and recorded. For dividing a parcel into 5 or more parcels, a Tentative Map will need to be reviewed and approved by the City, followed by a Final Map, which will also need to be reviewed and approved by the City. Then, the Final Map will must be recorded with the County Recorder’s Office.

There are some instances where maps aren’t necessary to split without preparing or recording a map, such as for commercial subdivisions. Please call 702-267-3643 for more information or submit your question here in Contact Henderson and one of our Planners will help you.

- The City of Henderson has partnered with the Clark County Department of Air Quality and Environmental Management to promote the 2009 Lawn Mower Exchange Program. Now in its second year, the program strives to improve local air quality by providing an incentive for local residents to trade in their gas-powered lawn mowers for a significant discount on a new (cleaner & quieter!) electric mower. There are two models available: one for only $99 (retail price: $400) and a larger model for $199 (retail price $500).
All Clark County residents, including City of Henderson employees (as long as they meet all the requirements), are eligible to participate and are welcome to come down to the Community Development Department to apply. The program is underway right now and will continue until all of the approximately 2,000 mowers are purchased (countywide). The two models of electric lawnmower are on display in the Community Development Department lobby at City Hall (240 S. Water Street).
