Only Henderson residents can surrender their pets to the Henderson Animal Protection Services  facility. Proof of Henderson residency and proof of ownership of the pet is required. For example valid photo ID with address and pet records. This includes owner requests for humane euthanasia.

If you have to surrender your pet to the shelter, there is are fees ranging depending on the type of pet if the pet is sterilized or not prior to entering the shelter. The shelter staff highly encourages all owners to seek other re-homing means first before surrendering their pet. There are many options like rescue groups and training that can help maintain a pet in its home. You will be required to fill out a questionnaire on your pet and relinquish all rights at the time of surrender. All pets that are surrendered are evaluated for adoption by a multi-screening process.

If you bring your pet into the shelter for humane euthanasia there is a fee. The humane euthanasia and cremation of remains fee ranges from $50 to $65 depending on the size of the pet. Owners are not allowed to remain with their pet during the process and the animal's cremains will not be returned to the owner. You may contact one of the local companies in town that offer private cremation services if you want your animal's cremains returned. All fees must be paid at time of service.

You MUST provide your name and address to file a barking dog/noisy animal complaint. If you select anonymous or are entering the compliant via third party, it will not be processed by Animal Protection Services. You must provide the exact address of the barking/noisy animal that you are complaining about for an Officer to respond.

Yes, it is illegal to feed pigeons. To file a complaint, click "submit a request" to be guided through the process. Please provide the exact address that you are requesting a response to of where the person feeding the pigeons resides.

If you have a pigeon problem on your property, please contact a pest control company that handles pigeons.  Animal Protection Services does not trap/bait/remove pigeons.

If you have found a stray or lost dog, cat, rabbit, ferret or other domestic animal in the City of Henderson and you would like an Animal Protection Officers to come and pick up the animal from your Henderson residence or business you may submit a contact Henderson. 

You may also bring the animal to the Henderson Animal Protection Services Facility located at 300 E. Galleria Drive in Henderson during business hours. You must have proof of Henderson ID to turn in a stray animal to the shelter. 

If you choose not to send or bring the animal to the shelter, Henderson Municipal code requires that you must call or file a report that you have found an animal. You have to provide shelter staff with a detailed description of the animal as well as your name and contact phone number to list in the shelter's lost and found folder.

The City of Henderson requires all pets to be confined by a leash when off their own property (unless a dog is in a designated dog park).

Henderson Municipal Code pertaining to licenses reads as follows: Every person owning, keeping, harboring or possessing within the City, any dog, cat or ferret over the age of three (3) months, shall within thirty (30) days after said pet attains the age of three (3) months or within thirty (30) days after first bringing said pet into the City, obtain for said pet a current pet license.

License fee for an animal that is not spayed or neutered is $50.00.
An unsterilized pet will also require a "breeder permit" $200.00 obtained through Henderson Animal and Control. For breeder permit application please visit our website at https://www.cityofhenderson.com/government/departments/animal-control/animal-permit-applications

License fee for an animal that has been spayed or neutered spayed is $20.00. A current proof of rabies vaccine is also required to license your dog, cat, and ferret. https://www.cityofhenderson.com/government/departments/animal-control/pet-licenses

A senior citizen discount is also available for those 55 and older.

You may view all lost/found pets at the Henderson Animal Protection Services facility by going to our website. Lost and Found | Henderson, NV

You can also come to the Henderson Animal Protection Services facility and look in person for your lost pet during normal business hours (Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm closed on Sunday and all Municipal holidays). You must provide your ID to look for your lost pet.

If you would like to report your pet lost to our shelter, please proceed with clicking "submit a request" and complete the information required, be sure to include your name, address, and phone number and a good description of your pet.

These fees include the routine vaccines, spay or neuter surgery, if not already done, microchip ID and registration, and a rabies tag or Henderson License (depending on where you live).

Anyone with knowledge that an animal bite to a person has occurred is obligated by Henderson Municipal Code to report it to Animal Protection Services. This includes the victim, medical facility or the pet owner. All bites inflicted by warm-blooded mammals must be reported to the rabies control authority, which, within the city limits of Henderson, is Animal Protection Services. Please complete a Contact Henderson for the person being bitten by the animal.

Please have the following information ready:

1)Victim's name, address, phone number and date of birth

2)Date, time, and location of bite incident

3)Brief description of injury and if medical treatment was obtained

4)Address of the residence where the biting animal resides OR where the animal was last seen

5)Description of the biting animal: species, breed, color, sex, collar color/type etc.

The shelter is open to the public from 9:00am-5:00pm Monday through Saturday. Please note that the adoption kennels close at 4:30pm. The Henderson Animal Shelter is closed to the public on Sunday and all Municipal holidays. Animal Protection Officers are on duty seven days a week from 7:00am-5:00pm on call for Municipal holidays.

The Henderson Animal Protection Services facility is not an animal hospital that provides medical services, vaccines, or microchipping for the public. The shelter does provide full medical evaluations and care for the shelter pets. All dogs, cats, rabbits, and ferrets adopted from the shelter are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines and microchipped.

Urban Wildlife, including coyotes, mountain lions, bobcats, and rattlesnakes are handled by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. Animal Protection Services will respond if the wild animal has become an immediate threat to public safety.

Coyotes are common throughout Henderson and are seen most frequently at early evening, night and early morning hours cruising through various neighborhoods looking for food. Please keep your cats and small dogs indoors! Coyotes will usually leave by themselves unless they are challenged or cornered. Any dog, cat, rabbit, or ferret in the City of Henderson that is not spayed/neutered by 4 months of age is required to have a Breeder's permit from Animal Protection Services. Any person who does not have a Breeder Permit and is breeding their pet (whether accidental or not) is illegally breeding.
