Paying For Ambulance Transportation: Why do I have to 'pay for' ambulance transportation? I thought that's what my taxes were for?

If an ambulance responds to an emergency call and the citizen receives treatment at the scene but is not transported to a hospital; the cost is covered by the property taxes. A citizen is charged a fee for ambulance service only when they are transported to a hospital for further care. Funding for this service does not come from the property taxes collected and only those people benefiting from this service are required to pay for it. Henderson's ambulance ordinance #2.29.010 sets forth the fees for this service.
