FAQ

What is public art, why does it matter, and where can I find it in Henderson?

Simply put, public art is art in public spaces. While the phrase might bring to mind classic bronze statues in a park, today’s public art can take many forms, sizes, and scales and may be temporary or permanent. Public art includes murals, sculptures, memorials, digital art, and works integrated with architecture or landscape design. In Henderson, the City’s commitment to public art is evident throughout the community, with a growing collection of artworks located from downtown to neighborhood parks.

Public art is an important part of our City’s Strategic Plan to create a healthy, livable, and sustainable community. In addition to adding beauty and visual interest, public art has been shown to enhance safety, support property values, and strengthen residents’ sense of connection and belonging within their neighborhoods.

We are working to place public art in every park and recreation center by June 2029. Chances are there’s already an artwork in your neighborhood or one on the way. You can also find numerous public art pieces near City Hall and throughout the Water Street District.

Explore the full collection using our interactive map or by visiting our Public Art Collection on Public Art Archive where you will find more information the artist, artwork details, location and description.
