What is a state hearing?

A state hearing is a complaint about how your application or benefits/services are/were handled. A state hearing is a hearing with you, and Administrative Law Judge from the California Department of Social Services, and a representative of the county. It is not a court hearing. You may, if you wish, to have a lawyer or other representative present with you at your cost. You may bring witnesses. The Administrative Law Judge is in charge of the hearing, which is not open to the public.
