FAQ

What is the Safely Surrendered Babies program?

The law allows a parent or other person with lawful custody of a newborn baby up to 3 days (or 72 hours) old to voluntarily and anonymously surrender the baby to personnel of a Safe Surrender site without fear of prosecution for child abandonment. This means that mothers or fathers who feel they cannot keep their baby can give the newborn baby to authorities within 72 hours of the baby's birth without being identified and without any police involvement.
