Demolition permits are required where either interior demolition or building removal is to be done. For buildings constructed prior to 1974, New York State Code Rule 56 requires that an asbestos survey be made by a certified laboratory, and submitted to the Technical Services Department with your demolition permit application (also reference OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1926.5). Removal of asbestos containing material needs to be conducted by a qualified licensed contractor. The Technical Services Department must be notified prior to the commencement of actual asbestos removal.
